The Hideaway Cafe

Sometimes we overlook the blessings of Malibu -- the splendid weather, the beach, the mountains -- all right here if we slow down to savor them. Seems like I'm always "on-the-go"; my TO-DO LIST is longer than my day! Sure, I know all about "stopping to smell the roses" but it's easier in the abstract than in reality.

Utilizing my best time-management skills, I've found a way to "smell the roses" without taking any time out of my busy day. The Hideaway Cafe is the solution! After I park, I stroll leisurely towards the cafe, stopping to inhale the fragrant bouquet of their pristine rose garden. At the same time, I can soak-up all the sun (or shade, depending on my mood) while relishing the ocean view and the majestic Santa Monica mountains. I'm a veritable genius! Zig Ziglar would be so proud of me. For every problem, there really IS a solution.

Located near the entrance to Zuma Beach, The Hideaway Cafe, (part of the newly-remodeled Malibu Country Inn), has both indoor and outdoor seating (deck AND poolside). Yes, I said poolside! (Hint, hint...need a "romantic getaway"? Don't have time to go far?) They're open for breakfast and lunch (8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily).

The menu consists of an affordable selection of standard items, including a children's menu (always a plus). Their breakfast specialties include Eggs Benedict and the Malibu Breakfast (2 eggs, 2 pancakes and 2 slices of bacon or sausage). The luncheon menu has a wide variety, ranging from Cobb salads and Turkey Club to Ground Chuck Hamburger. I have tried the Chicken Tacos, as well as the Tuna Fish Sandwich; I loved them both! For you Midwesterners, one portion will suffice; their portions are generous!

The Hideaway Cafe/Malibu Country Inn is also available for weddings and receptions on their beautifully-manicured grounds. (remember those roses???) For those who must prove me wrong regarding time-management, they DO have a "to-go" menu, but I bet you sniff those roses, anyway. Go on, take a deep breath. You don't know what you're missing!
