Cat Anxiety

Cat anxiety? by ScottR

My indoor cat has been licking his fur out on his arms and chest. It started several months ago and I was told to check for fleas. I promptly treated him for the fleas which seemed to resolve the licking problem for a short time. He is now licking his fur out and there are no signs of parasites.

Is he nervous? He acts his same old self. Does my cat need anti-anxiety medication?

Dear ScottR,

Your cat may be overgrooming himself. Very common scenario. What may help is an injection of a cortisone called Depo Medrol. Alot of these cats are hypersensitive to any type of skin allergy. I have found that this injection seems to be very effective in these cases. If this does not work, then we may have some emotional issues here.

Good Luck...... Dr. Lisa
